ECTODERMAL DISPLASIA

Ectodermal dysplasia (ED) is a genetic disorder syndrome that affects the ectoderm or skin, hair, nails, sweat glands and teeth. Children often are missing multiple teeth or have teeth that are deformed or cone-shaped. Since there is no cure, treatment involves life-long prosthodontic management with dentures as children and eventual implants in adulthood.

This case example shows a case Dr. Marion did for a six-year old patient.  She originally presented complaining that she wanted a new smile because kids at her school were calling her "vampire girl."

Dr. Marion employed a special technique using processed bases to test the fit of the dentures before they received teeth.  The teeth are a special type of Italian prosthetic teeth called Bambino teeth meant solely for early childhood. Once in her mouth, the patient was so happy and confident that she even went our for the school play and sung with the teeth.
